A welcome mingle for established and new Haugalendings

On Thursday 21 August, Haugaland Vekst and Haugesund Municipality hosted a Welcome Mingle – a social afternoon with a city walk, raffles and new acquaintances. More than 80 people signed up, including recent students, graduates, newcomers and permanent residents.

The city walk began at Haugesund Town Hall, where Mayor Nils Konrad Bua welcomed the participants with a drink and short stories about the city’s magnificent buildings. The tour then continued through the city, with stops at Festiviteten, Haugesund Public Library, Edda Cinema and Haugesund Picture Gallery. Both along the way and at each location, the participants were given a taste of the city’s history and cultural life, and there was also a raffle from the mayor’s top hat at each stop – much to their delight.

The evening ended at Dokken Museum with activities and local food, and many people took the time to have a chat. The atmosphere was good throughout, and many people got to experience new aspects of Haugesund.

One of the participants, who is herself a newcomer to Haugalandet, perhaps best summarised what makes the region a good place to live:
– “It’s the people that keep me from moving away!

The Welcome Mingle showed that Haugalandet offers history, culture and community, and that there is much to enjoy for everyone who chooses the region as their home!
